Tom Williford ‘92
President – Frisco A&M Club

Speaker Bio
Brooke L. Rollins
President & CEO
Brooke L. Rollins is the President & CEO of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, one of the nation’s premier free-market think tanks. A public policy research institute based in Austin, Texas, the Texas Public Policy Foundation has provided the ideas and research for true state based reform in education, taxes, tort reform, deregulation, criminal justice, health care and many other issues since 1989. Rollins’ leadership has helped guide the growth of the Foundation, a $5 million organization with 30 employees.

Before joining the Foundation, Rollins served as Governor Rick Perry’s Deputy General Counsel, and later as his Policy Director. She managed the Governor’s Policy Division and all policy issues including education, transportation, natural resources, agriculture, criminal justice, economic development, health and human services, and insurance.
Raised in the small, rural Texas town of Glen Rose, Rollins graduated from Glen Rose High School where she was an active member of the Texas FFA Association, serving as a State Officer. She attended Texas A&M University and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Development. While at Texas A&M, Rollins was the first female to serve as Student Body President and was recognized as the top graduate based on academics, leadership, and service. In 2007, Rollins was invited back to campus as the Aggie Muster speaker.

Rollins graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law and spent several years as a litigator with Hughes & Luce, L.L.P., in Dallas, Texas, focusing primarily on complex commercial litigation. She also completed a federal judicial clerkship with the Honorable Barbara M.G. Lynn, a United States Federal District Judge in the Northern District of Texas.

Rollins is a member of the Texas Lyceum, the Texas Bar Association, and the Texas A&M Former Students Association. She has been published in all major Texas newspapers and has spoken to thousands of Texans on the importance of free markets and limited government.
Rollins received the 2008 Thomas Roe Award, the top honor for free-market think tank leadership, at the State Policy Network’s annual meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. Most recently, Rollins was recognized in Texas Monthly as one of the 25 most influential leaders in Texas.
Rollins and husband Mark, an executive in the energy business, live in Fort Worth and have four small children, Luke, Jake, Anna and Lily, a gigantic golden retriever who thinks she is a child, a gerbil, four hermit crabs, a fish and four goats. During their “spare” time, they love to follow the Aggies around Texas in their motor home, talk about the importance of liberty and our Founding Fathers vision to anyone who will listen, and work on their very old, leaky, wonderful, historic home.

Howdy!

2011 has been a great year for Texas A&M. Three-peat National Champs in Track, Women’s BBall Champs, SEC, and not small by any means; largest freshman class and student enrollment ever.

One of those Fish is the club’s 2011 Scholarship winner Eric Wombolt. Eric, who plans to become a doctor, graduated from Centennial, was a member of the Debate team and National Honor Society. He was also in the Civilian Air Patrol and an Eagle Scout.

Eric had this to say about winning the FAMC Scholarship, “I know there were many deserving applicants, so I am extremely appreciative to have been selected for this particular scholarship. The fact that many donors have placed their trust in my future will not be taken for granted. This scholarship will help with more than paying down some of the costs; it will also act as a reminder that others are invested in my college education. Therefore, I will work extremely hard to do my absolute best while attending Texas A&M.”

Our main source for funding scholarships like Eric’s is memberships. Individual memberships are $30, while joint/family memberships are $40, and any additional amount you choose to give would be very helpful. Our goal this year is to get 50 new members to join the FAMC, which would help fund both a past recipient, and a new scholarship. With your support, we can continue to invest in the education of quality Aggies, just like Eric.

The club is eagerly working on plans for 2012. Events like a spring family picnic, and more game watching events (since the SEC move means all the games will be televised!). We are also looking for ideas on what the club can do for you, so please pass them along.

Myself ,and all of the FAMC leadership wants to thank you for all of your support this past year, and we wish you an even better 2012. Thanks and gig’em!

Imagine you are working on an important project for work. You are busy putting all the pieces in place and things are going smooth, and then suddenly…the computer screen is not showing what you need it to show, the mouse is stuck, and the keyboard is beeping back at every touch. Great, what now?

A call to Customer Support will have them telling you to reboot your machine. A fresh start. Why am I talking about computers to my fellow Frisco Aggies? The Frisco A&M club has called customer support! The theme for the club this year is “Reboot”. We’ve hit the reset button and are starting fresh so that we can better serve the former, current, and future students of Texas A&M.

Great, what now? The club will be more active this year. In addition to hosting Frisco Muster, we are scheduling networking events, family activities, social hours, game watching events, and local volunteer outings. We’ll also do a better job of letting you know when things are happening and give you opportunities to let us know how we are doing.

Our main goal is still, and always will be, to provide scholarships for Frisco students who are attending A&M. It is the responsibility of all former students to encourage and help the next generation of Aggies. Whether it is with sage advice about the workplace, or where the best tailgates are in the fall, or most importantly, with your financial support.

The club currently funds two scholarships but with your help, we would like to increase that number. This fall will likely be a tougher time for students with the likelihood of tuition raises and a reduced budget from the Texas Legislature. Whatever support you can spare could help bridge the gap these students will face.

Our main revenue source comes from your annual membership dues. Individual memberships are $30, while joint/family memberships are $40. If you have been a member of the club in the past, I hope you will give us a second chance. If you are new to Frisco and the club, let me shake your hand with a big “Howdy” and make you feel right at home within the club.

The Frisco A&M club is YOUR club, and it is my responsibility to make you glad to be a part of it. Here’s to a super 2011. Hope to see you at the Frisco Muster.

Thanks and Gig’em!
Tom Williford ‘92
Your 2011 FAMC President
